No - long only. The reason is that there have not been many times when shorting XIV made sense over the last five years. It is primarily driven by contango, which has been positive almost 90% of the time since 2011. Not a lot of data for developing XIV shorting systems with any decent stats.

XIV has only been in existence since late 2010, so only during a strong bull market. How these filters would work during a protracted downturn is unknown.

what peaked my interest on vix yesterday was the 2 day chart starting to come around combined with a 4 hour crossover of the PPO (moving avg).
